Chia is an ancient food source used by the indigenous peoples of the Americas. It is the seed from the chia plant, Salvia hispanica L. Its nutritional value is amazing. Aztec warriors carried only chia to nourish themselves during their conquests. Indian traders would run from the Colorado River to the Pacific Ocean, bringing only a pouch of chia seeds to sustain themselves during these long journeys. Chia was considered so valuable, it was used as currency. Our Running Food chia is of the highest quality!!

I'm enjoying eating these power seeds. They look somewhat like poppy seeds with a similar consistency and the flavor of a sunflower seed. I eat a handful when I hike but I also like to use them in salads and morning cereal. Tonight I shared some with my adult family and they all liked the seeds.

After reading Born to Run, I was excited to try using chia to fuel my daily runs and long hikes. I started nibbling on whole chia seeds and mixing whole or milled seeds with water, honey, and lime juice for a refreshing hydrating beverage.
I have actually noticed a difference in how long I can hike or run before getting tired when I consume chia. I prefer the whole seeds for cooking and mixing into smoothies, stir-fry, etc. and the Running Food Micro-Milled Chia for preparing chia beverages.
I prefer the running food brand because they use sustainable packaging (the 16 ounce whole and milled chia come in recycled paper bags) and are certified gluten free.
I've now sold many friends and family members on this brand.
